While plenty of people were making pigs in a blanket and throwing out snacks to gear up for the Super Bowl, Kelly Ripa got ready by posting a throwback swimsuit pic on Instagram.
“A pic from #superbowl sunday 2018 sporting my lucky Eagles wetsuit. Gonna wear it under my winter coat this year 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅,” Kelly joked in the caption. In the 5-year-old photo, Kelly sports an emerald green long-sleeved wetsuit, paired with seriously toned legs and a cool-girl smile.
Her comments section was immediately engulfed with flame emojis. “🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥,” wrote Jenna Dewan, while Jenny Mollen chimed in with “Omg! 🔥🔥🔥🔥.” See? I wasn’t joking.
Sure, the photo may be from 2018, but the 52-year-old is still seriously strong. Recent evidence:
Okay, but how does she get so toned? For starters, Kelly has done dance-based workouts with New York-based trainer Anna Kaiser for ages. Kelly even joked on New Year’s Eve that she “danced by way through 2022” while sharing plenty of videos of herself completely owning the dance floor with Kaiser and other dance instructors.
“The best thing about the marriage of dance and HIIT is that you’re moving on multiple planes of motion and you’re having fun,” Kaiser previously told Women’s Health. “You really need to focus on different types of muscular contractions and angles, not just on getting through exercises for the sake of feeling a burn. If you do the same motions over and over, you’re not going to get the full benefit.”
But Kelly doesn’t just dance here and there—she does 60- to 90-minute sessions four or five times a week, usually after she films Live With Kelly and Ryan. Kaiser shared a sweet shout-out to Kelly in June, saying that she “never cancels.” She added, “Listen, if I can share one secret with you, that is IT. Show up for you.”
Kelly also eats healthy foods. And, while she hasn’t shared much about her eating plan lately, she previously told ABC News that she sticks to a “very clean” diet. “I have lots of vegetables, I eat protein, but I really don’t put a ton of thought into it,” she said. “It’s everything you’ve read about or heard about in any diet book – don’t eat too much crap, and I don’t.”
She also previously told People that she follows a high-alkaline diet, which aims to minimize acid intake. “The alkaline diet is primarily a vegan diet, but I like cream in my coffee. I like to have a glass of wine. So I don’t adhere to it strictly,” she said.
